The SSID of the service is “iTaichung”. Users can access to internet through this free WiFi service at any hotspots with iTaichung logo displayed in Taichung city.

The WiFi hotspots are primarily available in Taichung City Hall, Wenxin Second Municapal Building, Yangming Municapal Building, District offices, Household offices, Land offices, Cultural centers, libraries, and cultural & educational facilities. Citizens are able to search for the SSID “iTaichung”. As these hotspots are located in the indoor public area of government offices, citizens can identify the availability of the iTaichung service through the iTaichung logo posted at the entrance of government organizations and agencies. By entering government offices with this iTaichung logo (places with better signal response), citizens can enjoy the iTaichung service. Since the service is made available in the indoor public areas, in consideration of power supply and site service, the service hours of iTaichung coincide with the office hours of these public areas. Outdoor hotspots provide service 24 hours a day.

Please enable the WiFi function on your mobile phone or laptop, search for the SSID "iTaichung" and confirm to connect to iTaichung. When opening the browser, it will be automatically directed to the iTaiwan “Terms of Use” page. Read the terms and tap “Surfing” to start surfing.

iTaichung has established a two-mode user roaming mechanism with iTaiwan.

For overall network system and improving bandwidth resource distribution, there is a limit time on using the internet over iTaichung. If there is no network activity from the device for 15 minutes or continuous use more than 4 hours, the system will automatically let the user out to avoid occupying public bandwidth for a prolonged duration of time, in respect for the rights of other users. If you require internet services after being logged out, you can reconnect to the hotspot and login again.

This iTaichung Wi-Fi service is based on shared bandwidth, which varies according to number of users, anticipating the users can use 8Mbps bandwidth for basic wireless Internet access, mainly to provide the public with basic WiFi service and to satisfy the temporary Internet access needs of users either outdoors or conducting business at a government office. iTaichung service is mainly to provide fixed-point wireless Internet access, which can be used free of charge in certain areas. The unlimited 4G/5G data service is on mobile network. In this way, users can move in any place with mobile phone signals and simultaneously access the Internet, along with the relevant fees. Although both can provide wireless Internet access service, it depends on the individual user’s need.

In general, as the iTaichung hotspots are built with WiFi technology, the best signal reception is within a 20m radius from each access point. However, signals are subject to attenuation as a result of indoor barriers. Therefore, it is recommended that users access the service near the logo（places with the best signal reception）.

Citizens can enjoy wireless broadband networking by connecting to a WiFi AP. However, the effect of electromagnetic fields (EMF) on human health is a public concern. Based on the low-power radio-frequency specifications announced by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) suggests that EMF power should be lower than 1 microwatt/cm2 (1,000μW/cm2 or 10,000,000μW/m2). The National Communications Commission(NCC) measured the EMF power of WiFi APs in June 2008. The result was 0.000000379 microwatt/cm2, which is far lower than the suggested value announced by the EPA. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) of the Taipei City Government has also requested service providers measure the EMF power of their AP locations. According to the conclusions of the "Electromagnetic fields and public health: Base stations and wireless technologies" (WHO, May 2006, FS304), 'there is no convincing scientific evidence that the weak RF signals from wireless networks cause adverse health effects.'
